The life you share keeps changing. Make room to change with it.
You can care deeply for each other and still be living a new season through arrangements made for an old one.
The Third Field is the space you create between you: the atmosphere, expectations and everyday patterns that shape a life together. Work, family, friendship and change all enter that space.
Begin privately, share only what you choose, and try one small change together. A plain notebook is enough; no separate journal is required.
Begin with a moment you enjoy and want to protect. Ask what made it possible.

Return when life changes
The Seasonal Return starts with today. Keep, change, stop or leave an arrangement undecided.
A taste of the book
Begin with one useful question.
Three selected exercises from the book. Start with whichever speaks to this season; you do not need to finish them all.
Use shared exercises only where both people are free to decline. These prompts support reflection and conversation; they are not therapy.

Part 02 · 02-A
01
What you enjoy
This part begins with what is good. That is not a warm-up before the difficult pages. What you enjoy and want to keep is as much a part of the life between you as anything that needs attention.
What do you enjoy about being together? Ordinary things count.
What do you admire or appreciate in your partner?
What is one thing your partner did this past week that you relied on, whether or not you said so?
When does it feel easy between you? Think of a time of day, a place, or something you do.
Name one moment worth protecting. It can be small. What made it possible?
If you choose to share: Each of you might name a moment worth protecting and what made it possible. A hope heard is not a hope agreed.
You may leave any prompt unanswered. “Not sure” is an answer.
Part 05 · 05-D
02
Guests and quiet
A home can welcome people and protect quiet. On some days the two sit together easily. On others, one presses against the other. Each of you can name what matters and notice what the current pattern asks of you.
What does welcoming people make possible for you?
What does quiet at home make possible for you? You do not need to explain where the need comes from.
Think of one recent visit, or one recent quiet evening. What happened, in order?
Separately: what did you expect or worry would happen?
Who notices a visit is coming, gives notice, hosts, cleans up, changes plans or loses quiet? Which part is easy to miss?
If you choose to share: Each person can name one good thing to protect. The listener may say back what they heard, and the speaker may correct it.
Two goods may not weigh the same, and the cost may differ. If you feel afraid, controlled or unable to say no, skip shared exercises and seek support on your own.

03
A Seasonal Return
A Return begins with today. You do not need an earlier notebook. If you have one, each of you decides which of your own pages, if any, to bring forward. An old page carries no permission into this season.
What brings you back? What has changed in your life, your hopes or your limits?
If there was an arrangement: what happened, practically? Was the practical thing covered?
What was it like for you?
Who carried the reminding, the watching and the adjusting?
Is there anything you understood then that looks different now?
What do you choose now, for yourself: keep, change, stop, or not decide today?
If you have earlier pages, which of your own are you willing to bring, if any?
If you choose to share: Take these questions one at a time: what happened, what it was like for each of you, and what each chooses now. Read an earlier page aloud only if its writer chose to bring it. A Return can end without a new arrangement.

The book and the practice
The book stands on its own.
A standalone Couples Map begins with the questionnaire, with no book purchase required. Guided Couples experiences include this workbook: the Director selects relevant exercises, with other areas available for optional practice afterward. The book awaits release; edition and delivery are confirmed before booking. Writing here does not begin a reading or give permission to use your words.
